The generosity of residents and businesses across Weymouth and Portland helped raise £2,650.84 for The Mayor’s Christmas Fund Appeal.
The fund aims to raise as much as possible to improve the lives of those within the community.
Councillor Graham Winter, the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland, said he was delighted with the response in the form of donations made to his Christmas Appeal.
He said: “I am overjoyed at the tremendous success of the appeal. It is wonderful that local residents and businesses across the borough have been so generous and recognise the positive impact this money can make on many lives. Especially considering the hard times we have all experienced in some way or another last year.
“The funds raised are already being put to work benefitting local people who need a helping hand, and I am very grateful to Weymouth and Portland Lions Club for administering the fund for me again this year.”
Norman Apps of Weymouth & Portland Lions Club, said: “We are very grateful for the generosity of the good people of Weymouth & Portland who have donated to the fund, particularly in the current economic climate.
“As with the Lions Club, all the money is spent locally on various cases of hardship and of a compassionate nature where funds would not normally be available through official sources, quite often we are the last resort.
“I can assure you that from the feedback we get from those that we have helped they are extremely grateful.”
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal runs all year round and is open for donations at any time. These can be sent to the Mayor’s Christmas Fund, Council Offices, North Quay, Weymouth DT4 8TA. Requests for assistance from the Fund should also be addressed to the Mayor at the same address.
